Story: Ajmer 92 is inspired by a true story that happened in Ajmer in 1992, where more than 200 school girls were blackmailed and sexually assaulted.

Review: Ajmer 92 traces a horrific incident from the past that deeply affected the city of Ajmer in 1992. The film depicts the systematic blackmail and rape of more than 200 college-going girls by influential people belonging to a political party. While faithful to the actual events, the movie tactfully avoids explicitly mentioning the criminals' relationship with the Sufi dargah. Throughout the film, it manages to keep the audience enthralled. However, one can't help but imagine how much more intense the experience would have been if the tension had been skillfully conveyed through the performance rather than relying too much on a high background score. Still, the movie maintains a good pace and carries it till the end, successfully engaging the audience and holding their attention. Despite some flaws, Ajmer's 92 definitely made an impact on its audience.

Set in Ajmer, the film revolves around the love story of Madhav (Karan Varma) and Geeta (Sumit Singh). Madhav works as a journalist in a local newspaper, while Geeta, his love interest, is a college student, and her father Ranjit Singh (Rajesh Sharma) holds the post of the town's superintendent of police. On the other hand, Mohan (Akash Dahiya), who runs his own newspaper, acts as Madhav's rival and has amassed wealth through questionable means. The story takes a dark turn when Mohan publishes a hazy-nude photo of a girl in his newspaper, which creates a big ruckus. As the police team and Madhav investigate the matter, startling facts come to light. More than 250 girls are reported to have been victims of sexual exploitation and blackmail at the hands of politically connected influential men. Subsequent investigations reveal a web of corruption and abuse that has plagued the city.

The film embraces the cause of women empowerment, igniting a powerful message in its own unique way. The relevance of the film in the current social context becomes impossible to ignore. With the incident in Manipur making headlines, the movie reinforces the gravity of rape as a heinous crime, capable of destroying victims' lives. While the supporting cast including talented actors like Rajesh Sharma, Sayaji Shinde and Manoj Joshi deliver commendable performances, the same cannot be said for the lead actors Karan Verma and Sumit Singh. Karan's character lacks depth and fails to make a lasting impact. For example, in a scene where he confronts his father after being brutally beaten by goons, his performance comes across as relentless and unmotivated. Despite these difficulties, the film remains a significant and timely testament to the importance of standing up for women's rights and seeking justice for victims of such heinous crimes.

While Ajmer 92 stays true to its earnest storytelling, it falters when the screenplay calls for deeper exploration. Some sequences come across as superficial, leaving a desire for deeper exploration of the case. Still, the film's heart is in the right place, aiming to portray a meaningful drama.
