Haunted Mansion Story: Single mother Gabby (Rosario Dawson) hires a tour guide with a special camera to rid her newly purchased haunted mansion of ghosts. But a series of terrifying events occur, awakening many spirits from the palace's horrific past

Haunted Mansion Review: It's love at first sight when Ben Mathias (Lakeith Stanfield) - an astrophysicist meets Alyssa (Charity Jordan), a local tour guide in a New Orleans city where death is not the end but a new beginning. It is a place where people celebrate ghostly encounters and haunted mansions are the most sought after tourist attractions. After a life-changing event changes Ben's path, he meets Gabi, a single mother to 10-year-old Travis (Chase Dillon). A mother-son duo is trapped in a haunted mansion infested with all kinds of ghosts. Although reluctant, Ben joins a motley crew of strange characters. Together, they find themselves trapped in a huge mansion with ghosts. These include a priest named Father Kent (Wayne Wilson), a psychologist named Harriet (Tiffany Haddish), and a veteran historian named Bruce (Danny DeVito). The real adventure begins here.

Based on a Disneyland theme park ride of the same name, the experience of sitting through this film is nothing less than being locked inside one. You will find wonderful atmosphere, mind-bending visual effects and some jump scares - all for entertainment. Nothing too scary, really. After all, it is a film that aims to give its audience an immersive visual experience and 'Haunted Mansion' does it satisfactorily. The story lacks confusing plot twists or shockers in terms of writing, and the backstory of the evil ghost is kind of implicit.

Writer Katie Dippold skillfully blends horror and comedy with substantial contributions from seasoned comedy veteran Danny DeVito, who plays a funny bumbling and disturbing historical character. Tiffany Haddish comes a close as the self-doubting and loud psychic Harriet, who finally shines in her own moment of darkness. It's a star-studded outing with cameos that mostly fail to adequately utilize talented actors like Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Liotta and a miss-if-you-blink appearance by Winona Ryder. Even Jared Leto as the rusty old evil ghost Crump is very caricatured, designed like many other bad horror characters. But overall, the production design (by Darren Gilford) and costumes (by Jeffrey Kurland) are top notch. LaKeith Stanfield delivers a remarkable performance as a grieving man, and talented child actors Chase Dillon and Wayne Wilson provide excellent support. Special mention to casting director Carmen Cuba for assembling such a diverse and inclusive cast. However, Chris Bowers' soundtrack proves to be rather mediocre for a spookfest.

In conclusion, 'Haunted Mansion' promises a thrilling ride for tweens and teenagers alike. It takes the audience into an imaginative realm of ghostly encounters that may not cause fear but are sure to give a spooky good time with friends and family.
