Tiku Weds Sheru Review: You know what to expect from a Bollywood based movie, especially about the lives of junior or background artistes trying to make it big in the cutthroat world. Tiku Weds Sheru gives you a glimpse of them through Shiraz Afghani aka Sheru (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who thinks he's all cat quiver and ham whenever he's in front of the camera. When he tries to make it big, he works like a pimp to survive, though is eager to leave that life behind.

On the other hand, there is Tiku (Avneet Kaur), a fierce and perverted girl from Bhopal, with a flair for writing poetry, who wants to run away from her carnal family and become a superstar. His big ticket to Bollywood comes in the form of Sheru, who pretends to be a film financier. The two get married because Sheru receives a dowry that she can use to pay off a loan shark. The story is about how they navigate through life in Tinseltown and become a family. But their lives are turned upside down when Sheru is arrested for dealing drugs, Tiku tries to make it big in the industry and gets caught up in the same ugly world.

The film's narrative and Sai Kabir's direction lack coherence and flow. It is partly a love story of two 'strugglers' and what junior artistes have to face in the name of big break power. Often, the screenplay doesn't do justice to either theme. Tiku becomes pregnant with someone else's child, which Sheru readily accepts and seems somewhat unprepared for.

Nawazuddin as an energetic junior artist hits out of the park with his performance. He drops filmy dialogues like "Hum jab vi milte hai dil se milte hai, warna khoab mein ve mushkil se milte hai," as he emotes effortlessly. Avneet Kaur shows great promise as a fiery and self-assured young woman and a desperate girl who crumbles when she discovers the reality of her husband. He shines in the scene when he breaks down and takes food from a film set when he realizes he's been sold on the promise of a role he won't bag.

The film gets off to a slow start and ends up with nothing new to offer. What's more, you feel no sympathy for the characters. The movie is worth watching for Nawazuddin's performance, though his dressing as a woman in a dance number can be skipped.
