Review: Despite a short run time of 90 minutes, One Friday Night will have you praying for its ending. This film is boring with its inspired plot and lacks redeeming qualities. The film's potential is clear with its promising premise, but unfortunately, the execution falls short, leaving the audience disconnected from the unfolding events. Despite the effort, the film fails to evoke genuine dramatic moments or sustain a compelling narrative. Director Manish Gupta's decision to steer clear of melodrama and Bollywood clichés is commendable, but the film ultimately suffers due to the absence of thrilling and dramatic moments. With smoother storytelling and a tighter script, One Friday Night could have been an engrossing thriller, but as it stands, it leaves a lot to be desired.

The story revolves around Ram Verma (Milind Soman), a C-suite executive of a leading company, who is in a relationship with a dancer named Nirosha (Vidhi Chitalia). On the pretext of traveling to Nagpur, Ram takes Nirosha to his secluded villa. However, things take a dark turn when Ram is injured in a freak accident, leaving him unconscious. Left with no other option on a rainy night, Nirosha contacts Ram's wife Lata (Raveena Tandon), a gynecologist, and she rushes to the villa to offer medical help to her husband. The villa becomes a battleground for wife and lover, each justifying their position. After Lata leaves the villa, considering mutual divorce, an unexpected twist unfolds, which changes the course of events.

While the continuous torrential rain creates a perfect backdrop for a thrilling drama, Manish Gupta's film fails to fully capitalize on it. Despite all the necessary elements, the movie never gets intense. Moreover, one wonders why Raveena Tandon did not lend her voice in the film. During Milind Soman's character's accident sequence, Nirosha wastes a significant amount of screen time moving back and forth between the accident site and the house, to no meaningful effect. The isolated villa and the rainy night may be integral characters in the story, yet they remain distant from the plot, failing to intersect with key elements of the narrative.

Raveena Tandon's heartfelt performance as Lata is admirable, while Milind Soman's performance is good. However, Vidhi Chitalia, who played a strong role as Nirosha, could not fully bring out the myriad shades that could be tinged with the character, leaving it potentially redundant. The brilliance that we have seen in Manish Gupta's past works like Rahasya and Dhara 375, seems to be absent in his latest offering. Unfortunately, One Friday Night turned out to be a dull watch overall.
