Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani Story: Opposites attract, and a loud and colorful Punjabi boy, Rocky, and a well-educated Bengali television news anchor, Rani, fall in love. As their families oppose the relationship, they make a plan - to stay at each other's house for three months before taking the relationship to the next level.

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani Review: With a dance number featuring Ranveer Singh as well as Bollywood stars- Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Ananya Pandey, the opening quickly hints at what this family drama has in store for us. The film is colourful, entertaining, light and glam and has all the tropes of a Karan Johar film, but has a message and meaning underneath. It gently addresses deep-rooted issues like patriarchy, gender bias, misogyny, body shaming and the culture of rejection in our society. But all of this is subtly and vividly conveyed in the narrative, without losing a pulse of humor or aching for all the attention in the screenplay.

Rocky Randhawa (Ranveer Singh) is a Mithai magnate from a successful family, a brilliant scion of Dhanalakshmi (Jaya Bachchan). Rocky wants to trigger the memories of his haunted grandfather Kanwal (Dharmendra) by reconnecting with a woman from his past, Jamini Chatterjee (Shabana Azmi), who reconnects with Rani's (Alia Bhatt) paternal grandmother. For this, he meets the intellectual and cultured Queen and despite their dramatically different personalities, love blossoms over song, dance and hilarious one-liners. The movie is also about the clash of cultures and personalities and shows how judgmental and dismissive people can be towards each other. There's plenty of melodrama and tears—all in Kejo's exquisite style.

An outdoor musical fair, one of its highlights is a medley of Bollywood classics beautifully woven through old-world rendezvous and the new-age romance of Rocky-Rani. The film is also peppered with self-quotes—matriarch Jaya Bachchan insists, 'Baas, keh diya!' Amitabh Bachchan in 'Kavi Khushi Kavi Gham', 'Rahul, Naam Toh Suna Hi Hoga' and 'It's All About Your Love'. Parivar,' which will delight fans of Kejo movies.

Ranveer Singh is perfectly cast as a loud but lovable and sensitive Punjabi guy who is oblivious to gender equality due to family and social conditioning. He has some of the funniest one-liners in the film, which he delivers with ease, and he handles the fascinating character arc with finesse. Alia Bhatt as a fiery and self-assured girl dazzles in bright and emotional scenes. But a better command of Bengali pronunciation would have helped. From being a docile wife in K3G to a wise and domineering matriarch in this outing, Jaya Bachchan showcases her prowess. Be it publicly humiliating Rani's father Chandan (Tota Roy Chowdhury) or insecurities about Jamini, the veteran actress pulls off a multi-dimensional character with panache. Shabana Azmi gets the act perfectly and matches her twang while shifting between Bengali and Hindi. Dharmendra is delightful and stands out in a brief but impactful role. Aamir Bashir, as Tijori, Rocky's antisocial father doted on by his mother, also delivers a strong performance. Namit Das as Rani's colleague Saumen is entertaining and stands up to her strengths.

Pritam's music is striking, along with jhumka? And Dhindora Baja Re, and the romantic Tum Kya Mile, all the songs are dominant and beautifully shot. Dola Re Dola redux rocks and is sure to get a lot of applause from the audience.

Manush Nandan shows his skills as the director of photography, and visually, the film is glam and glittery in every scene, though one wonders why a television news anchor comes dressed like a queen. Ishita Maitra's quick-witted and rib-tickling dialogues deserve a mention. Rocky says to take Rani's doli, she has to grow up like Rajamouli. The story takes time to set up, the first half is slow and the scenes stretch, but it picks up pace in the second half. There's nothing complicated about the plot or anything we haven't seen before, and the climax is also predictable and simple. But the film brings many laughs. Towards the end, it subtly depicts the air of change when Rocky's parents ask for Rani's hand in marriage, saying that they want their son to be Chatterjee's son-in-law instead of asking their daughter to be their bahu.

At heart, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani is an entertaining and sweet love story, with sizzling and sizzling characters given to us in a well-wrapped glossy package. And yet, it's about loving your family.
