DD Returns Movie Synopsis: An event manager and his team enter a haunted mansion to recover their stolen money. But things go awry when they are forced to play a dangerous game orchestrated by the ghosts living in the mansion.
DD Returns Movie Review: At a time when idiocracies are passing as horror comedies, DD Returns stays true to the genre with tight writing and an engaging screenplay. The success of this film is that the team can elicit laughs at will with this crazy comic caper.
In the first scene, the film introduces us to a dangerous game called Win or Run, where contestants are brutally killed if they fail to advance. However, the family orchestrating this deadly event is killed by the villagers, leaving their ghosts to haunt a wine French mansion.
We are then introduced to Satish (Santhanam), an event manager, who is desperate to save his girlfriend (Surbhi), who is trapped in a predicament. He finds a wad of money and solves the problem, only to realize later that it was stolen from a sinister businessman.

Subsequent events lead him to the haunted mansion, where he and his team are forced to play a dangerous game by the ghosts. Will Satish with his girlfriend be victorious and escape from the ghost?
What sets DD Returns apart from other failed attempts in the genre is that the sequences that are meant to evoke fun are staged with just the right amount of craziness. The film cleverly steers clear of 'cringe', which is common in most horror comedies. While the first 20 minutes introduce many characters and make us wonder if this is going to be just another chaotic effort, director Prem Anand manages to make the film a fun experience, each one ensuring that the laughs last till the end.
After a perfect setup in the first half, the second half goes full throttle, with all the central characters entering the game. The game, Win or Run, has four levels and each round has a different task, making room for creating the perfect gag. Creators also come up with trending references like squid games, YouTube videos, etc.
Santhanam, who leads an ensemble cast, is in fine form with his one-liners that land perfectly. There are moments of fine heroics where he scores goals without much effort. Other cast members including Surbhi, Radin Kingsley, Pradeep Rawat, Munishkanth, and Mottai Rajendran played their roles perfectly. Masum Shankar's role becomes an important one as a film progresses and he has done a decent job.
Even the technical aspects of the film work for the genre, especially the scenes where we learn about the backstory of the ghosts and their motives.
Apart from the first few minutes, DD Returns is undoubtedly a fun ride for movie lovers looking for a clean weekend entertainment.
