Summary: A fascinating biographical drama, Oppenheimer is the American physicist J. Discusses the life of Robert Oppenheimer, known as the 'Father of the Atomic Bomb'. The film recounts the events leading up to and leading to the world's first nuclear test led by Oppenheimer for the US military, codenamed 'Trinity'.

Review: Love and regret lie at the heart of Christopher Nolan's films, however complex and demanding they may seem in terms of structure and storytelling. True to his style in spirit but deviating from the usual in execution and content, the acclaimed director created a moving masterpiece on human disillusionment. How one man's greatest invention and adventure marked his greatest destruction. Oppenheimer may have been a genius, but he was not familiar with the ways of the world. He spoke his mind, trusted everyone and paid for it.

Talky and dense, the film unfolds like a psychological horror-investigative-courtroom thriller even as it recreates familiar historical events. IMAX cameras get dangerously close to the actors perfectly revealing every pore, every unspoken emotion and every shed tear. Sound and silence play a restless game of hide-and-seek, especially in those chilling explosion scenes. Ludwig Göransson's music lends the film its unsettling ticking time bomb effect. Nolan is ramping up your anxiety, keeping you emotionally captive with no interest in slowing it down. You find yourself moved to tears as he finally frees his flawed protagonist from the prison of his own guilt.

The 3-hour film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer'. It carefully follows the life story of the famous and controversial physicist in a non-linear fashion. The narrative moves between past and present while addressing major events leading up to the nuclear test and its response. These include American Jewry's equation with himself, fellow scientists including Albert Einstein, left-leaning political activism, him being a Russian spy, and the revocation of his security clearance in unfair government hearings.

A man who was so proud of his invention could never see it in the eye. Although the atomic bomb forms only one part of the film, it essentially studies the psyche of its creator. Oppenheimer's ambition and relentless love of physics imbued him with a sense of impending doom and moral limitations. Nolan cleverly pits Oppenheimer's heart against his mind and the disconnect between the two at the center of his film.

If you're a World War II geek, you'll enjoy the Germany-USA-Japan-Russia arms race and the socio-political situation better.

One man's desire to fight fascism and save lives led to the destruction of people's lives, and no one played it better than Cillian Murphy. His soul-piercing blue eyes express pain and quiet rage. Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt are excellent. Matt Damon, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh do well in extended cameos.

Oppenheimer leaves you reeling as this is a gripping piece on a man consumed by guilt and inner turmoil. "A man who became death, the destroyer of worlds." You will not forget this picture for a long time.
